SUMMER CAMPS

ART CAMP

  • June 29 to July 3, 2009 – 15 hours instruction  $295
  • Ages 7-13
  • 9am to noon
  • Teacher:  Mrs. Karen Kallmeyer, A.A..  Students will practice a different art medium each day, including sketching, watercolor, 3-dimensional figures, puppetry, and masks.  Students will keep their own box of art supplies used during the class.


 “GOING GREEN” SCIENCE EXPLORER’S CAMPS

  • July 13 to July 17, 2009 – 15 hours instruction $295
  • Grades 3, 4, 5
  • 1pm to 4pm

  • August 10 - August 14, 2009 – 15 hours instruction $295
  • Grades 3, 4, 5
  • 9am to Noon
  • Teacher:  Mrs. Karen A. Kania, B.S.  Students engage in hands-on activities to learn the importance of “going green”.  Math, science, language arts and critical thinking skills will be integrated in a fast-paced, creative environment.

 SEWING CAMPS

  • July 6 to July 10, 2009  - 15 hours instruction $295
  • Ages 7-14
  • 9am to noon
  • July 20 to July 24, 2009 – 15 hours’ instruction $295
  • Ages 15 – adult
  • 1pm to 4pm
  • Teacher:  Mrs. Gail H. Johnson, M.Ed.  Students will learn how to measure a person, shopping for fabric and pattern, preparing the pattern, layout, cutting and sewing.  Students will complete a project by the end of the class.  Please bring a portable sewing machine for the student to use.  If you do not have one, please let A+ know.  A+ has one class sewing machine to use.  A supply list will go out in advance of the class. A trip to Jo Ann Fabrics in Manassas to purchase fabric and notions is part of the class learning

 

WRITER’S CAMPS

  • July 13 to July 17, 2009  - 15 hours’ instruction $295
  • Grades 1-3
  • 9 am to noon

 

  •  August 3 to August 7, 2009 – 15 hours’ instruction $295
  • Grades 1-3
  • 1pm to 4pm
  • Teacher:  Mrs. Amanda Livings, M.Ed.  Students will write their own book.  They will learn the writing process, and will explore different domains of writing – poetry, stories, autobiographies, letters, fiction and non-fiction.

 

 

ALGEBRA I REVIEW CAMP

  • July 27 to July 31, 2009 – 10 hours’ instruction  $200
  • 1 pm to 3pm
  • Rising Algebra II and rising Geometry students
  • Teacher:  Mrs. Cheryl Brindle, M.A,.  Students will review Algebra I concepts and be introduced to Algebra II and Geometry concepts, Student will be taught how Algebra I is integrated into these math classes and how to develop strategies for working math problems at this level.


COLLECTOR’S CAMPS

  • July 20 to July 24, 2009  - 15 hours’ instruction $295
  • Ages 7 - 16
  • 9am to noon

  • July 27 – July 31, 2009 – 15 hours’ instruction $295
  • Ages 7 - 16
  • 1pm to 4pm
  • Teacher:  Peggy Ferguson, B.A. Students will research their hobby, catalog and organize it, write up a short history, and design a design an attractive display for it. All of the collections will be showcased at a local shop or mall before being taken home. Please bring $10 for supplies, in case we need it. 

 

SUMMER CLASSES



KINDERGARTEN PREP
July through August, 2009 – 5 day classes – $125/week or 3 day classes - $75/week

  • Ages 4 and 5 years [separate classes for each age group]
  • 9am to 12 noon or 12:30pm to 3:30pm
  • Teachers:  Mrs. Janet Holender, B.A., Judie Sferro, M.Ed., Pam Upperman, M.Ed., Amanda Livings, M.Ed., and others will be added based on student capacity.  Students will work in all academic areas to prepare them for Kindergarten in the Fall 2009.  Included are math, reading, writing, science, foreign language and social skills training. Each class is limited to 4 students each.

 WRITING CLASSES

  • July through August, 2009 [individual schedules available] Fees based on current tuition rates.
  • Grades 4 through college level
  • Times for classes to be arranged between students and teachers.
  • Teachers:  Certified instructors in English and Language Arts for the appropriate age level.  Limited to 4 students per class.

 

READING CLASSES

  • July through August, 2009. [individual schedules available] Fees based on current tuition rates.
  • Grades 1 through 10
  • Times for classes to be arranged between students and teachers.
  • Teachers: Certified instructors in English and Language Arts for the appropriate age level.  Limited to 3 students per class.

 

STUDY SKILLS CLASSES

  • August, 2009  [individual schedules available]. 4 hours’ instruction – Fees based on current tuition rates. Limited to 4 students per class.
  • Grades 6 through 11
  • Four 1-hour classes.  Classes to be arranged between students and teacher.
  • Teacher:  Gail H. Johnson, M.Ed.  Students will learn how to organize binders for each class, how to take notes from oral presentations and from written material, how to manage after school time for study and strategies for preparing for quizzes, tests and reports.

 

MATH CLASSES –Review and Preview

  • July through August, 2009 [individual schedules available]. Fees based on current tuition rates.
  • Grades 1 to college level
  • Times for classes to be arranged between students and teachers.
  • Teachers:  Math instructors who specialize in math will be teaching students in their current or rising grade level.

 

SCIENCE CLASSES –Review and Preview

  • July through August, 2009 [individual schedules available]. Fees based on current tuition rates.
  • Grades 6 to college level
  • Times for classes to be arranged between students and teachers.
  • Teachers:  Science teachers who specialize in various disciplines will be teaching students in their current or rising grade level.

 

FOREIGN LANGUAGE –Review and Preview

  • July through August, 2009 [individual schedules available].  Fees based on current tuition rates.
  • Grades 5 to college level
  • Times for classes to be arranged between students and teachers.
  • Teachers:  Foreign language teachers who specialize in their language.  Spanish and French will be offered this summer to students in their current or rising grade level.

 

SPECIAL EDUCATION CLASSES FOR SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS

  • July through August, 2009  [individual schedules available]. Fees based on current tuition rates.
  • Grades 1 to college level
  • Times for classes to be arranged between students and teachers.  
  • Teachers:  Teachers credentialed in Special Education certification will teach students with I.E.P.s across the spectrum of academic subjects, social skills and strategies for living and studying.  Each class is one-on-one teaching unless otherwise determined.
